Chanel Kadir: February 2013

Tuesday, 19 February 2013

So we are all quite aware of my love for Topshop so you would understand the sheer disappoint when I woke up from an afternoon nap to realise I had missed the show. Great. Thankfully, I remembered to catch up on it when I had fully awoken and had was back in the swing of life.
I am unconditionally and irrevocably in love with this collection.
At first I was a bit hasty as I had read tweets saying it was cowboy-esque and I am not a huge fan of that trend. However, I think in my head, I over-exaggarated what those said people meant. Can I just off by saying how obsessed I am with those patent, pleated skirts. Definitely an improved version of the school girl chic. Paired with those chunky, oversized coats (Topshop Unique create the best coats, hands down!) and either a sheer tee or cropped tee - the look is well structured and modern. Now, onto the jumpsuits. Ever since I watched Topshop Unique AW12 show I have come to the conclusion that they also create the best god damn jumpsuits (the long sleeved velvet one? the velvet dungarees?) yes, an A* and a round of applause for you Topshop, you rock. You also suck for not notifying me that the velvet dungarees went in the sale for less than half the price. My heart has broken. Pink is my least favourite colour in the world but this pastel jumpsuit just reminds me of cute baby bunnies and I like bunnies. Also the mix of different textures and the low neck-line has tickled my fancy. However, it doesn't quite compare to the closing number, the oxblood red, sequinned jumpsuit. I think I have found for New Years Eve outfit for this year. I like the spaghetti straps and I also like how fierce and sassy Jourdan Dunn looks in it but she's just absolutely flawless and killing the catwalk this season. It may be covered in sequins but it doesn't look tacky or like it could fall apart within a minute of partying. The pop of pastel pink in an A/W collection makes it different and stand out from previous collections; as last year was all about khaki and reformed military uniforms.

TOPSHOP boyfriend coat, TOPSHOP dress, TOPSHOP leggings, NIKE free runs 2, ZARA clutch, EBAY beanie, RIVER ISLAND sunglasses, MICHAEL KORS watch
The amount of Topshop clothes I buy and wear, they should make me their ambassador or something right? Today I made my way to Somerset House again for some street style shooting (not that I done much of that, I was either staring at beautiful people or beautiful outfits). I really am into the whole gym-I-do-loads-of-sport chic. One it's uber comfortable and so is the footwear, (I bounce around like Tigger in these Nike running shoes). Two, the clothes are modern and so on trend, I am obsessed with this dress and the sharp zig zag pattern. Tomorrow I am going to relax and get everything prepared for my London College of Fashion interview on Wednesday. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it!!!!!!!

TOPSHOP neon beanie, H&M print jumper, ASOS dungarees, TOPSHOP cut out boots
I took these snaps quickly before I headed out for London Fashion Week day one. In the end, I actually wore the dungarees up and it was such a nice, spring-feeling, day that I didn't have to spoil the outfit by a big chunky jacket. As it was so early in the morning I most likely blinded a few people with this outrageously bright beanie, it quite literally glows in pictures! It is amazing for when you don't have a statement clothing item and you just need to add a pop of colour to a monochrome outfit. A key trend this season. I shall be posting my review on Zoe Jordan's show tomorrow which I attended.

Music for the screwed, blued and tattooed.
Now I know I haven't done a music post in a while, but Bago's new mixtape Sunday's Best deserves to be blogged about. I only found and downloaded it this morning but I haven't stopped listening to it all day (apart from when I was catching up on Bieber's SNL from last night) and I know that it will be playing non-stop for a while.
Check it out and download it here.

Daytime: TOPSHOP boyfriend coat, H&M monochrome print jumper, DIY t-shirt, TOPSHOP jeans, TOPSHOP cut-out boots
Nighttime: TOPSHOP dweeb t-shirt, TOPSHOP dungarees, JEFFREY CAMPBELL spiked litas, ZARA messenger bag
Usually when I wear jeans it tends to be a bad day or a very unproductive day as they are my go to item for lazy days; especially these ripped boyfriend ones. However, yesterday was totally the opposite. I completed the first draft of my article, went shopping and purchased this Jill Sander copy, finally got a smoothie that I had been craving for two weeks and then went out at night and had an awesome night out with the majority of my good friends. I feel like lately, I have really found my style of dressing like a dude. Androgynous, never leave. You shall see me rocking crop tops, dungarees, beanies, ankle boots and also some rather cool caps this spring/summer.

What trend will you be rocking this S/S?

I have spent my day completing work ready for my LCF interview in a couple of weeks and then deciding to actually pay attention to fashion week this year. It was day 1 of New York fashion week today which was kicked off with BCBG Max Azria, and it was a brilliant start to the season! Layer, layer and more layers, with long silhouettes which is heartbreaking for the short ones like me. If you see a 5"3 girl pull off this look, let me know and I'll forever bow down to that girl. I'm glad that femininity isn't coming back just yet and we're sticking with the boyish, boxy structure. Beanies will be staying on trend throughout the next two seasons, but turning slouchy for AW13. Just think skater dude slouchy.  Who'd ever thought you would see knee length pumps?! These are three of my favourite looks from the collection as it keeps with the minimalism in the last look and the first look carries on the cobalt blue trend that we will be seeing a lot of this season.  A*.

What do you think of the trends that were shown today for AW13?

It's crazy how good Topshop's new collections are. I am particularly obsessed with all the sport-inspired clothes with this 86 tee being a favourite and now currently sold out. Dear Topshop Gods, please re-stock this tee! The jogger influenced leggings are A*. Don't even get me started on the shoes. Topshop never fail to disappoint when it comes to the shoes, apart from the prices. A student with a budget + Topshop shoes don't really go hand-in-hand. I recently purchased the white cut-out boots which you can see in my previous post. Must admit, I haven't worn any other shoes since purchasing these little beauties. I love the boots in this collage as it has both the cut-out and the contrasting heel which is the ideal boot in my eyes. Got a love a bit of a peeping-ankle. I have just recently lost A trainer - well it disappeared out of my bedroom so I need some new gym trainers and these ones are so on trend so they can both be worn in the gym and out on the streets. Another A*. THE HEELS. Chunky, sexy ankle strap, have a chode-y look to them. LOVE.
You rock Topshop.

TOPSHOP fedora hat / TOPSHOP boyfriend coat / FOREVER 21 yellow jumper / RIVER ISLAND disco pants / TOPSHOP cut out boots
I don't know what it is about fedoras but when I wear mine I feel like a French woman in Paris. This is quite a vibrant jumper for me. Lately, my wardrobe has consisted of black, white, grey and khaki green but now spring is coming is time to update my wardrobe. Although, monochrome and minimalism is so on trend right now it's time for a wardrobe change and to add some colour to my life. This jumper caught my eye in Forever 21 as I'm a huge fan of neon yellow paired with an all black outfit or with grey. I can't wait to shop more for Spring/Summer clothes. Topshop's sport luxe collection with its huge use of cobalt blue which is a colour I absolutely adore. The thought of going on a huge shopping spree in Topshop excites me so much!
